The Triad Lady Cardinal girls basketball team broke a 3 game losing streak with a 39-35 road won over West Jefferson in Ohio Heritage Conference play on Saturday night.
“This game is a perfect example of team basketball,” said Lady Card coach Jeff Merklin. “Audrey Lightle only had 4 points, but held West Jeff’s all conference post to 14 points and defended her well the entire game. Audrey was the player of the game as far as I’m concerned.”
It didn’t hurt to have Finnish exchange student Emma Vanninen back in the lineup either. Vanninen, who missed Triad’s Wednesday loss at Tipp City Bethel with a sprained ankle, scored 12 points and added 7 rebounds in limited action against the Roughriders. Frosh Cati LeVan added 9 on 3 trifectas, and senior Alea Ferguson notched 8 for the Lady Cards. Both LeVan and Ferguson also had 3 steals.
With the win, the Lady Cards improved their record to 9-7, 7-5 in the OHC. Triad is back in action Monday night at home in a non-conference game against Bellefontaine.
