Lady Cards over the Pirates of Riverside

The Riverside Pirates invaded The Nest at Triad for a Monday night non-conference game with the Lady Cardinals, and when it was over, Triad had improved to 2-1 on the season with a solid 56-41 win.

"This group of girls is playing very well together.  Putting the statistics together is a joy because it shows every girl is contributing, which is so important over the course of a season," said Triad coach Jeff Merklin.  "For instance, tonight people might remember Alea Ferguson's 16 points, or freshman Cati LeVan's 15 points, but we tasked Kristin Bailey with guarding Riverside's best player, and not only did she do a super job, but she had a team leading 4 assists on offense.  And this wasn't a big scoring game for Makenzie Cauley, but she led the team in rebounds."

LeVan's line for the night was particularly impressive.  In addition to the 15 points, including 5-5 at the foul line, but she also had 4 steals, 3 assists, and nabbed 2 rebounds.  "Pretty well rounded floor game," said Merklin.   Ferguson's 16 points came on lights out 8-13 shooting.   Finnish exchange student Emma Vanninem chipped in with 13 points and 5 boards.

Triad travels to Mt. Victory for another non-league game Ridgemont on Tuesday night.
