The Mechanicsburg Lady Indians paid a visit to North Lewisburg for an Ohio Heritage Conference North game on Saturday night, and left with a 53-40 victory over the Triad Lady Cardinals.
“Even though we lost, I’m very proud of our girls’ effort,” said Cardinal coach Jeff Merklin. “Mechanicsburg is, as always, so well coached and they have very good players. We were down 1 with the ball with about 2:30 or so to go in the game, so the girls put themselves in a position to win against a quality opponent. That’s all you can ask for.”
A big key to the game was Mechanicsburg’s excellent foul shooting, as the Lady Indians went 19-24 from the stripe. “Good teams make their foul shots at the end of a game,” commented Merklin.
Sophomore guard Cati LeVan lead Triad with 19 points. Senior post Makenzie Cauley hauled down 9 rebounds, and senior Kristin Bailey had 6 boards and 3 assists to go with 4 points, and played her usual excellent defense.
With the loss, Triad falls to 3-3 overall, 1-3 in the OHC. The Lady Cardinals host Northeastern on Thursday in another OHC match up.
