Triad’s girls basketball team overpowered visiting Shekinah Christian 52-32 on Tuesday in a non-league season opener.

“We had some ups and downs on offense,” said Triad head coach Jeff Merklin. “That’s to be expected in our first game. We have some really nice players, but right now we only have six in the playing rotation due to injury and lack of depth.”

The Cardinals got rolling in the first half and outscored the Flames 31-16.

Triad stayed in control in the second half.

“We had some lulls in our offense,” said Merklin. “That happens when girls are having to play 28 to 30 minutes, and when you have a perimeter based team. As we get into better game condition, I think we'll be more consistent on offense.”
