Boys Track Information

Lakeview Junior High Boys Track and Field 2019

Communication:

  • Remind: Text 81010 with @tflakeview
    • This will be used for team updates and news.

  • Twitter: @LakeviewBoys_TF
    • This will be used for team updates and news.

  • Google Classroom: heg1rxq
    • We have set-up a Google Classroom to help the athletes put more tools in their Track and Field Tool Box. 3 days/week there will be a video or a resource for the athletes to look at during study tables. We will follow this pattern each week:

  • Motivational- Quick Video to get athletes excited for the week
  • Goal Setting and Reflection- This week, This Month, This Season
  • Technique- Resource specific to their event with tips and tricks

  • Prior to all meets: Participating athletes will receive a Meet Info sheet which will include the specifics of the event and the events they are competing in.

Focus:

Learn - Compete - Have Fun

  • Learn: The major focus of this season is on learning about the sport! Track & field is the nation’s #1 and fastest-growing high school participatory sport. Our goal as coaches is to give athletes a great introduction into the sport so that they will continue onto the next level at High School and beyond.
    • How will we do this:
      • Practices with Event Specific Coaches
      • Team Time Trials
      • Intrasquad Meet
      • Google Classroom- Track and Field Toolbox
      • Citius, Altius, Fortius Challenge

  • Compete: With a variety of opportunities (practices- time trials- intrasquad meet- Citius Altius Fortius Challenge- meets/invitationals) athletes will compete first (and always) against themselves. Through structured goal-setting, athletes will set and work towards achieving realistic goals.
    • Always a focus on bettering yourself
    • Goal Setting Template: Goals - Targets - Outcomes. Focus is on Goals because that is what athletes can control! Setting and achieving Goals will lead to the desired Targets and End Outcomes.

  • Have Fun!

Athletes Expectations

  • Be Prepared:
    • Fuel- Food and Water: This is the gasoline for your body.
      •  Make sure to bring a water bottle as the drinking fountains aren’t on at the beginning of the season.
    • Clothes- Appropriate for the weather and situation
    • Shoes/Spikes- Appropriate for your event specialty
    • Watch- Distance Runners
    • Mentally- Positive Problem Solvers

  • Be Positive:
    • In Thoughts-Words-Actions. We have a positive team culture which is embodied by all athletes and coaches. Positivity is an Expectation for all athletes in all practices and meets.

  • Be Persevering:
    • Find an Answer, not an Excuse. Yes, you do have to run. Yes, we do expect you to work hard and give effort. Make it work- no matter what the circumstance, no matter what obstacle, you can usually find a way around it.

Attendance and Discipline:

  • Must attend 10 Full Practices to be able to compete

  • 3 Unexcused absences and the athlete will be dismissed from the team. If you are not going to be at practice, the athlete must let Coach Hartley know ahead of time via email .

Ross_Hartley@plsd.us

  • Practice is a Privilege. Those who abuse that Privilege will be asked to leave. 3 Strikes during practices (for behavior and/or attitude) and the athlete will be told to go home. If this happens this 3 times, the athlete will be dismissed from the team. This applies to all team events- practices, meets, and team events.

Competition Opportunities:

2 Types of Meets throughout the Season:

  • Dual/Tri Meets: Everyone on the team competes. We have 5 of these on the schedule.

  • Invitationals: Not everyone competes. In these types of meets, usually the top 2-3 individuals in each event along with relays and alternates travel and compete. Athletes will be notified if they are competing and in what events at the beginning of the week.

Schedule of  Events:
